LASIK

Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, LASIK, is the most common refractive surgery procedure in the United States today. LASIK is a quick and painless procedure that often leaves patients seeing 20/20 the day after surgery. LASIK surgery is best for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. All LASIK patients will require the use of reading glasses upon the development of presbyopia in their early 40’s. There is a less common procedure for correcting presbyopia with LASIK, called monovision, which may allow the presbyopic patient to be less reliant on reading glasses, but will not eliminate them completely.
The doctors at Drs. Roush and Will can determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK through a comprehensive eye examination at one of our offices. There are other forms of refractive surgery available should you not be a candidate for LASIK, and your doctor would be happy to discuss them with you. To be a good candidate you should be at least 21 years of age with a stable eyeglass or contact lens prescription for 2 years. LASIK patients must have adequate corneal tissue thickness because LASIK corrects your vision by removing tissue from the front surface of the eye, the cornea.
